Hey yall, we just had the Piedmont Farm Tour out this weekend. Many of the growers at the Breeze Farm led tours and talked with visitors. Here's LaVonne in front of a chalkboard sign we made to welcome people to our plot.
It's been a while since I updated the blog. Been working on the ground and sort of lost track. But now that it's getting close to the start of my CSA distribution, you can rest assured you'll be reading something here every week, announcing what will be in the box and at market. Yes, the market starts Thursday, May 6th at 3:30 PM on Market Square in Southern Village, Chapel Hill, NC. We'll be there with delicious baby greens, super salad mix, and maybe more. CSA distribution will start a week or two later. Then the next exciting happening is the Farm-to-Fork Picnic on May 23rd at the Breeze Farm. Chris McKinley of Boxcarr Farm (Cedar Grove) and I will be teaming up with Matt and Shelia Neal of Neal's Deli to cook some dishes for the picnic--you can purchase tickets or learn more at www.farmtoforknc.com
Let me tell you what all else I've planted since my last post almost a month ago: Tomatoes, tomatillos, summer and winter squash, sweet corn, flowers and herbs, cabbages and cauliflowers, mizuna, tatsoi, bok choi, turnips, arugula and mesclun mix, chicory. Tomorrow I'm going to put out more tomatoes, sage, and red mustard.
Here's a picture from a couple of weeks ago, tomatoes soon after planting out, covered before a chilly night.
See you at market--Ben
